Who we are

Chapter One is a Bible reading, study, and reflection app operated by Velor4 LLC ("we," "us," or "our"). This policy explains how we handle information when you use the app, this website, or contact us.

For privacy questions or requests, contact chapteronesupport@gmail.com . Your account information, reading activity, and reflections can be personal. This policy distinguishes the content you save from the usage information used to operate and improve the app.

02

Information we collect

Information, source, and purpose
InformationHow we receive and use it
Account and sign-inAccount identifier, name you provide, email address, sign-in provider, and authentication information. Apple or Google supplies information according to your sign-in choices; Apple may provide a relay email. We use this to sign you in, personalize your profile, and connect your saved data.
Reading preferences and onboardingGoals, reasons for using the app, familiarity with the Bible, reading-plan history, preferred translation and reading time, reminder choices, referral source, and onboarding feedback. We use these to recommend a journey, personalize the experience, and understand onboarding.
Saved activity and writingReading progress, completed chapters, quiz results, streaks, saved verses, highlights, notes, reflections, commitments, and memorization activity. We store these to provide your journal and progress features and synchronize your account.
SubscriptionsProduct and transaction identifiers, purchase and renewal events, subscription status, entitlement, and related account identifiers. We use these to provide paid access, restore purchases, resolve billing issues, and measure subscription performance. The app store processes payment details; we do not receive your full payment-card number.
Usage and technical informationApp and device identifiers, device and operating-system information, network information such as IP address, screen views, session timing, onboarding steps and answers, reading interactions, paywall events, and errors. We and our providers use this for functionality, reliability, security, analytics, and install/subscription attribution.
Optional dictationIf you choose to dictate a reflection, your device's speech service processes audio and returns text. Text you save becomes part of your saved writing. See the dictation section below.
Support messagesYour contact details and the information you choose to send when you ask for help or exercise a privacy right. We use these to respond, verify ownership where needed, and resolve the request.
03

Faith and other sensitive information

Your reading choices, onboarding answers and reflections may reveal religious beliefs or personal circumstances, including anxiety, grief, or relationships. Some laws give this information additional protection.

Only share information you want the service to process. Avoid including other people's private information or information unrelated to your use of the app. Onboarding answers and reading interactions are also included in product analytics; they are not limited to your private journal. We do not send journal or reflection text as analytics event properties, sell that text, or use it for advertising.

04

Services that process information

We use the following services for the purposes described here. Information may be linked through your account ID, an analytics ID, a device-specific attribution ID, or a transaction ID; these records are not necessarily anonymous.

  • SupabaseAccount authentication, database storage, app content, backend functions, account deletion, and subscription-access records.
  • Apple and GoogleThe sign-in service you choose and, where available, app-store payments, subscription management, and device speech services. Google's Gmail service handles messages sent to our support email.
  • RevenueCatPurchase verification, subscription status, restore purchases, and billing-related events. Its integrations can associate subscription events with PostHog and AppsFlyer identifiers.
  • SuperwallSubscription screens and their performance, using your app user ID, subscription status, first name for personalization, and paywall interactions.
  • PostHogProduct analytics, including screen views, sessions, onboarding answers, reading interactions, and purchase events. The app is configured with session replay disabled.
  • AppsFlyerInstall attribution and conversion measurement, including device-specific identifiers and app or subscription events. The app is configured to disable advertising-identifier collection.
  • ExpoDelivering app updates, which involves update requests and technical app, device, and network information.
  • Cloudflare and content hostingCloudflare hosts this website. Hosting providers receive network requests and technical logs needed to deliver pages, Bible text, and audio. When Bible text is fetched from bible.helloao.org, that provider receives the requested passage and ordinary network information.

We also disclose information when needed to comply with a legal obligation, protect people or the service, address fraud or abuse, or carry out a business transfer subject to applicable protections. A provider may retain information for its own legal, security, or app-store obligations. Contact us for questions about a provider or a deletion request.

05

Optional dictation and AI availability

If you choose dictation for a reflection, the app asks for microphone and speech-recognition permissions. Depending on your device and settings, speech processing may occur on the device or through Apple, Google, or another configured speech service. Chapter One uses the resulting text and does not store a separate audio recording of your dictation in its database. You can type instead and revoke permissions in device settings.

Ask Chapter One is not included in the launch version. The launch app does not send questions, conversations, or journal entries to OpenAI for AI-generated answers. Before introducing an AI question-and-answer feature, we will update the relevant disclosures and provide any notice or consent process required for that feature.

06

Your choices and privacy rights

  • Profile and preferences: change your display name, translation, reading time, reminder, and other available settings in Profile.
  • Device permissions: manage notifications, microphone, speech recognition, and photo-saving permissions in device settings. Refusing these permissions may limit the related optional feature.
  • Access, correction, and deletion: contact chapteronesupport@gmail.com to request a copy, correction, or deletion of your personal information. You can also delete your account in the app.
  • Other rights: depending on your location, you may have rights to portability, restriction, objection, withdrawal of consent, an appeal, or a complaint to a privacy authority. Contact us to make a request. We may need to verify account ownership before releasing or deleting information.

The app does not currently provide a separate in-app analytics switch. Device-level advertising settings do not necessarily stop account-linked product analytics. Contact us about available choices or to object to processing. We will assess requests under applicable law.

07

Retention and deletion

We retain account information and saved app content while your account is active to provide the service. When account deletion succeeds, the account and linked records in our primary app database are deleted, including your saved progress, journal content, bookmarks, and app subscription-access record.

Deleting the app, signing out, or cancelling a subscription does not delete your Chapter One account. Deleting the account does not cancel an app-store subscription.

Deletion from the app database does not automatically remove every record held by analytics, attribution, billing, or other service providers. Transaction records, security logs, support correspondence, and backup copies, where present, may remain for the period needed for legal, accounting, security, dispute-resolution, or recovery purposes. Retention depends on the record and provider; we do not promise immediate deletion from all systems. Use the account and data deletion page to request deletion beyond the app database or ask about a specific record.

08

Security and processing locations

We use safeguards such as encrypted network connections, authentication, and account-based database access controls. No storage or transmission method can guarantee complete security.

Our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries, which may have different privacy laws from your location. Where applicable law requires a legal basis, transfer safeguard, or additional consent, those requirements apply to our processing. Contact us for information about processing relevant to your account.

09

This website

These support and legal pages do not include a Chapter One analytics SDK, advertising pixel, or contact-form database. Fonts and images are served with the site. The hosting service still receives ordinary request information, such as IP address, browser information, and requested page, and may use logs or security features to deliver and protect the website.

Email links open your email application. Sending an email shares the information you choose to include with us and the email services involved. External links, including app-store help pages, are governed by their own policies.

10

Age requirements

Chapter One is intended for people aged 13 and older, subject to any higher local minimum age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below that minimum age. If you believe a child has provided information in violation of this policy, contact us so we can investigate and delete it as appropriate. Users below the age of legal majority need parent or guardian permission.

11

Changes and contact

We may update this policy as the app or our practices change. The date at the top identifies the latest version. We will provide additional notice or obtain consent when required by applicable law.
